John VanCamp DDS (“Respect Your Mouth,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the website www.respectyourmouth.com (the “Site”). This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, disclose, and protect personal information when you visit our Site. It also explains your rights and choices regarding your information.
This Privacy Policy applies to the Site only. Information you provide to us as a patient, whether in person, by phone, or through our practice management systems, is protected health information governed by our separate Notice of Privacy Practices, which is available from our office.
By using our Site, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide Directly
We collect personal information that you voluntarily submit through our Site:
- Appointment Request Form: Your name, phone number, email address, whether you are a new or current patient, your preferred appointment dates and times, your primary concerns, and how you heard about us. You may also choose to provide your address.
You decide what to include in the form. We ask that you do not submit detailed medical history through the Site; we will discuss your health with you directly.
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
- IP Address: We record your IP address when you submit the appointment request form. This is stored alongside your submission.
- Approximate Geolocation: We use the MaxMind GeoLite2 database, held on our own server, to derive your approximate city and country from your IP address at the time of submission. This helps us identify spam and is not used to identify you personally.
- Server Logs: Like most websites, our web server records the IP address, requested pages, and basic browser details of each visit for security and troubleshooting purposes.
1.3 Information We Do Not Collect
We do not collect payment or financial information, insurance details, Social Security numbers, or other government-issued identifiers through this Site. We do not use analytics or advertising trackers.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- Responding to appointment requests and contacting you about scheduling.
- Keeping a record of your inquiry until it has been handled.
- Preventing spam and abuse through Google reCAPTCHA on the appointment form.
- Maintaining the security of the Site and diagnosing technical problems.
- Complying with legal obligations and protecting our legal rights.
We do not sell, rent, lease, or trade your personal information to third parties for monetary or other valuable consideration, and we do not use it for advertising.
3. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
3.1 Cookie Categories
Strictly Necessary Cookies: Essential for the Site to function. The Site sets one cookie of its own, cc_cookie, which records your cookie consent preferences for twelve months and contains no personal information. Google may set a cookie (_GRECAPTCHA) on the appointment form page to provide spam protection. These cannot be disabled.
Social Media Cookies (Opt-In Only): The Facebook feed displayed in the reviews section of our Site is provided by Meta Platforms, Inc. It loads only after you affirmatively consent through our cookie banner. When it loads, Meta may set its own cookies and receives your IP address, browser information, and the page you are viewing. If you do not consent, no connection is made to Meta.
3.2 Your Cookie Choices
When you first visit our Site, a cookie consent banner allows you to accept or decline the Facebook feed. You can change your preference at any time by clicking “Cookie Preferences” in the Site footer.
3.3 Global Privacy Control (GPC)
We honor the Global Privacy Control browser signal. If your browser sends a GPC signal, the Facebook feed is disabled automatically and you will not be prompted to enable it.
3.4 Do Not Track
Because there is no common standard for “Do Not Track” browser signals, the Site does not respond to them. Your cookie preferences and GPC signal are honored as described above.
4. Third-Party Services
4.1 Google reCAPTCHA
Our appointment request form is protected by Google reCAPTCHA, which helps prevent spam and abuse. reCAPTCHA loads only on the form (not site-wide) and may collect hardware and software information, such as device data and browser characteristics, and transmit it to Google for analysis. Use of reCAPTCHA is subject to Google’s Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
4.2 Facebook Feed
With your consent, our Site displays our own Facebook page timeline using Meta’s Page Plugin. When this content loads, your browser connects to Meta’s servers, which exposes your IP address, browser information, and the page you are viewing to Meta Platforms, Inc. We do not use this to track or identify you. Meta’s handling of this data is subject to Meta’s Privacy Policy.
4.3 Hosting and Email
The Site and the form submissions we receive are stored on a server operated for us by our web developer. Submissions are also delivered to our office by email. These providers process your information only to provide the service to us.
4.4 Third-Party Links
Our Site contains links to third-party websites, including our new patient registration form hosted by MyDentistLink, our Yelp and Google review pages, and Google Maps. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these external sites and encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing any information.
5. Data Retention
We retain personal information for the following periods:
- Appointment request submissions: Up to 12 months from submission, after which they are deleted automatically from the Site. Information transferred into our patient records is retained in accordance with our practice records retention policy and applicable law.
- IP addresses and geolocation data: Retained with the associated form submission and deleted on the same schedule.
- Server logs: Retained for a limited period for security purposes and then discarded.
- Cookie consent preferences: Retained for twelve months or until you clear your browser cookies or change your preferences.
You may request deletion of your personal information at any time (see Section 6).
6. Your Rights
6.1 All Visitors
Regardless of your location, you may:
- Decline or withdraw consent for the Facebook feed at any time via the cookie consent banner, the “Cookie Preferences” footer link, or by enabling GPC in your browser.
- Request access to the personal information you have submitted through the Site.
- Request correction or deletion of that information by contacting us (see Section 10).
6.2 California Residents
If you are a California resident, you have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, to the extent those laws apply to us:
- Right to Know: You may request a description of the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you.
- Right to Delete: You may request that we delete your personal information.
- Right to Correct: You may request correction of inaccurate personal information.
- Right to Opt Out of Sale or Sharing: We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined by California law. No opt-out is necessary.
- Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
To exercise your rights, contact us using the information in Section 10. We will verify your identity before processing your request.
6.3 Visitors Outside the United States
Our practice is located in California and the Site is intended for visitors in the United States. If you visit from elsewhere, please be aware that any information you submit will be transferred to and processed in the United States.
7. Data Security
We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These include encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), masking of form fields in technical error reports, restricted access to form submission data, and automatic deletion of submissions after the retention period.
Form submissions are delivered to our office by email, which is not a fully secure channel. For this reason we ask that you do not include detailed medical information in the form. No method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and while we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
8. Children’s Privacy
Our Site is not directed at children under the age of 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the Site. Appointment requests for minors should be made by a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information through the Site, please contact us (see Section 10) and we will delete it.
9. Changes to This Policy
This Privacy Policy is effective as of October 6, 2026. We may update it from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. We will post the revised policy on this page and update the “Last Updated” date shown at the top. Material changes will be highlighted via a notice on the Site. Your continued use of the Site after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
